In Seoul, there is a peaceful and calm area where you can see Korean traditional houses. It is the Bukchon Hanok Village that is always loved by many people. You will feel the warmth scenery as you walk along the small alley while looking at the old houses and shops. It also makes you feel like you're time traveling.

In this post, we are going to introduce to you Baeryeom's House, a beautiful Hanok that is worth visiting when you come to Bukchon Hanok Village.

#1 Baeryeom's House

To get to Baeryeom's House, get off at Anguk Station Exit 2 and walk towards the Bukchon Hanok Village. The view along the way is nice so you won't feel bored at all.

After walking about 10 mins, you will reach Baeryeom's House. The Hanok looks beautiful at all time.

Baeryeom's House was the residence of Korean painter named Baeryeom that is currently operated as a public hanok in Seoul. Hongik University is operating it as a place where citizens can stay comfortably and at the same time, it is used as a platform to communicate with contemporary artists and aimed to interact with citizens as well. Please take note that it is closed on every Monday and public holiday.

Baeryeom's House, built in 1940s, is a modern hanok with "ㅁ" shape that is often seen in Gyeonggi-do and Seoul. Baeryeom lived here from 1959 to 1968, and the family lived until 1983. Since then, it has been operated as a guesthouse. In 2017, Seoul Metropolitan Government opened this place as a historical house.

When Baeryeom was living here, there was a separate entrance to the Sarangchae (outer room), and a wall was placed between the gate and courtyard so that the main building could not be seen directly after entering the gate. The original building had some damages, but since it's used as an accommodation, the Seoul Metropolitan Government reconstructed the space to how it looks like now.

You can't enter the room, but you can see Baeryeom's room from the window. His workplace was originally at the Sarangchae, but was moved to the main building after recontruction.

Some of the works of Baeryeom are displayed in the exhibition room. In addition, there is also a book placed near the entrance of the exhibition room where you can take a look at his works.

At the courtyard, you will see a stone wall that keeps the water which flows from the roof. A few places have changed after the reconstruction but you can still see many traces of the old appearance. It's fun to just look around at this house.

.

You can sit on the floor to take a rest. Sometimes, exhibition is held at Baeryeom's House and online exhibition can be viewed on their website. There are several ways to enjoy Baeryeom's House without having to visit in person.

Besides the exhibition, there are other programs such as daily library and architectural experiment program are held. If you are interested to join, you can make reservation.

# 2 Bukchon's Alley

Bukchon's alleyways are an attractive area where the past and present coexist. The beautiful scenery catches your attention when you walk past.

There are stores with retro sentiments that can hardly be found these days.

It is such a picturesque scenery of Hanok and the blooming flowers.

Yo will spot many other Hanok houses on the way out after visiting Baeryeom's House. In addition, there are also many cafes and guesthouses at this area. However, it is a residential area where people actually live, so please remember to keep good etiquette when you walk at the Bukchon's alleyways.
