[Travel in Incheon] Must-Eat in Chinatown, Incheon

Recently, there are many people who travel around in Korea looking for good and delicious food. Of course, Incheon Chinatown is included in the travel list of travelers who are looking for good food in Korea. During weekend, some of the restaurants in Chinatown are really crowded and require long hours of waiting before you could get a seat in the restaurant. So, let us take a look at the beautiful Chinatown that is located in Incheon.

Chinatown is conveniently located near Seoul Subway Line 1 - Incheon Station and has not only grab the attention of foreign tourists but also local people. For passengers of Airport Railroad AREX line, you may transfer at AREX Gyeyang Station to Incheon Subway Line 1 to get to Bupyeong Station, then transfer again to Seoul Subway Line 1 to get to Incheon Station.

If you want to get to Chinatown from Incheon Airport, you can take Bus #306 from Incheon Airport 3rd floor bus stop. Chinatown is the last stop of Bus #306.

Chinatown is not only famous for Chinese culture but also filled with many delicious street food such as Crunchy Balloon Bread (Gonggal-ppang), Hwadeok dumplings (화덕 만두), and many more!

The most famous food in Incheon Chinatown is the Blackbean sauce noodle - Jjajangmyeon (짜장면)!

The Jjajangmyeon (Noodles in soy bean Sauce) in Mandabog is not "black". In addition, there is no MSG added in the Jjajangmyeon and the taste remains the same as 100 years ago. The taste is definitely different from the normal jjajangmyeon.

There are two types of jjajangmyeon available in Mandabog - 100 years Jjajang (백년 짜장) and White Jjajang (하얀 백년 짜장).

If you want to try the authentic 100 years jjajangmyeon, it is recommended that you try the "white jjajang". The noodle, chicken broth and soybean sauce will come separately.

There is no MSG added in the soybean sauce. It is made of Chinese soy bean paste that is fried together with the meat. To eat this jjajangmyeon, add the soybean sauce and chicken broth into the bowl of noodles and mix it well.

2. Shin Seung Ban Jeom Chinese Restaurant (신승반점)

This restaurant has ever appeared on TV program show. After that, it got famous and usually there is a long queue on the weekend. If you visit Incheon Chinatown during weekdays, it is recommended that you visit this restaurant to avoid big crowd.

There are a few representative menu of this restaurant which is - uni jjajangmyeon, spicy jjampong and sweet and sour pork (tangsuyuk, 탕수육).

You can find minced pork meat that is mixed with black bean sauce in the Uni Jjajangmyeon. One of the specialty of Uni Jjajangmyeon is that it comes with a fried egg.

[Autumn Festival in Korea] Seoul Silver Grass Festival (서울억새축제) at Haneul Park

Silver Grass Festival is the festival that represents Autumn. One of the famous Silver Grass Festival (also known as Seoul Eulalia Festival) is held in Haneul Park every year during Autumn. Haneul Park is filled with silver grass (eulalia) from end of September to October and it is always full of people visiting this beautiful scenery.

This year, Seoul Silver Grass Festival is happening from 13 Oct - 19 Oct, from 10:00 ~ 22:00. On normal days, Haneul Park is only opened during day time. However, during the festival, Haneul Park is opened at night too!

To get to Haneul Park, you can take the Seoul Subway Line 6 to World Cup Stadium. It is also near to Digital Media City Station (Airport Railroad Line & Gyeongui Jungang Line). If you get off at World Cup Stadium, you just walk for 20 minutes and you will be able to see the stairs that lead to Haneul Park.

There are 558 steps at the staircase. Each steps you take, you can see the number that is written on it. It is fun to count how many steps you have taken instead of making you feel tired and bored.

Take the tram to Haneul Park

If you want to go to Haneul Park in a more comfortable way, you can take the tram that costs KRW2,000 (one way), KRW3,000 (return). This tram is available from 09:00 ~ 20:00, and it operates every 3 mins.

Every year, many people will come to Haneul Park to take photos with the silver grass. Especially during the Silver Grass Festival, please expect big crowd and try to come here earlier to avoid the crowd.

During the festival, you can visit Haneul Park at night. Don't forget that this year's Seoul Silver Grass Festival is happening until 19 October 2017 only! You can still come here after the festival to take photos of the silver grass but please keep in mind that you can only stay at this park until sunset. So, please make an early visit to Haneul Park!
