The popular travel spot of Korea – Yongsan War Memorial Hall

The War Memorial hall in Yongsan is the Korea’s only total museum of war history. The museum owns about 33,000 relics.

In 2013, annul visitors were 2.1 millions and 10% of them were foreigners. ‘Trip Advisor’, the global tour information site, announced in 2013 that the war memorial museum was ranked as the 3rd place among the Korea’s best tour places followed by N Seoul Tower and Kyungbok palace. So, this war memorial hall has been positioned as foreigners' one of main tour courses in Korea.

There is a huge sculpture of the Korean war drawing spectators' attention at the memorial museum main entrance every Friday 2pm.

The sculpture with the Korean war tower, large group of patriots, and combatant nations' monument was made for reviewing history and inspiring the national security to young people who haven't experienced the war.

Next to the sculpture, there is another one which showed the true story that the brothers who finally met as the enemy at the battle field during the Korean War toched off by the North Korea’s attack on June 25, 1950.

They fought each other as south solider and north one ,respectively, since the separation. This culpture cherishes a wish for reconciliation and reunification.

The War Museum is divided into outdoor and indoor exhibit hall. The war history hall is on the first floor, the Korean war··Ⅲ hall on the second floor, and the indoor exhibit hall on the third floor.

The outdoor exhibition hall is popular with foreigners especially who want to take pictures since it displayed large weapons that were used during the Korean War like howitzer, armoured vehicle, diverse world airplanes. Spectators are allowed to enter the insideplane and armoured vehicle.

There is the display of chamsuri 357, a South Korea Navy's patrol ship, which had been sunk by the North Korea’s sudden attack at the Second Yeonpyung Sea battle(between South and North’s sea battle due to North korea’s invasion cross Northern limit line in Yeonpyung west sea on June 29, 2002).

This has been used for security display hall manufactured as the same as the original. Visitors can experience the battle situation which simulates fierce battle moment through lots of bullet marks around the ship.

Both side of the memorial hall corridor has been carved with the list of those killed in wars including Korean soldiers and policemen killed in actions during Korean war, Vietnam war veterans, and UN soldiers who were dispatched to Korea for freedom during Korean war and had never been to the their countries after the armistice of this war. Their dedication held many spectators in solemnity.

The countries which sent battle troops to Korea under the flag of UN allied forces were 16 ones including USAUK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Turkey, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Colombia, Belgium, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Philippines, South Africa, and Thailand. Five countries like India, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway sent medical support to South Korea.

The foreign war history of Korean people that has been keeping this nation from prehistoric times to the present and various war relics are displayed on the basis of chronological division at the war history hall. So, visitors can view the changes of weapons at a glance.

You can have a glance of the whole war information like background of North Korea’s attack, progress of war, and signature of armistice agreement at the Korean War hall.
Especially, visitors can experience K-2 riffle shot through simulation and also have a chance of 4D experience in Incheon landing operation, 3D experience of F-15K combat plane with vivid feeling of boarding.


Besides the large equipment used in the Korean War, weapons and equipment produced by Korean defence industry companies are displayed defence equipment hall. Also the early stage of Korea Air Force liason plane called L-5 as well as parachute and helicopter are shown to spectators. This place become popular spot with foreigners for taking photos.

-To use the Airport Railroad and transfer to Line 6 at Kongduck Station. To get off at Samgakgi Station and walk out through Exit 12
