[Incheon] Trekking at Somuuido Island (ft. Seafood Noodles)

Put on your backpack and let's go to Somuuido Island in Incheon!
You don't need to take a boat to get to Somuuido Island, a small island in Incheon, and it's a perfect place for trekking, even for beginners.

After you crossed Muuidaegyo Bridge from Yeongjongdo Island, you will arrive at Gwangmyeong Port. Upon arriving, you will witness a scene of fish drying up under the sun.

Not far from Gwangmyeong Port, you will see the way leading to Somuui Indogyo Bridge. Yes! Somuuido is an island that can only be reached on foot. But don't be afraid! It is a small island with an area of 1.22㎢, so even children can enjoy trekking without difficulty.

After you walk on Indogyo bridge, you will enter Muui Bada Nurigil 1st Section.

At the end of Indogyo Bridge, you can see the western village. There are two villages here - east and west, and the history of Somuuido Island begins 300 years ago when "Park Dong-ki" settled down with his three daughters. In fact, they said that there were people staying at this Island before Daemuuido Island.

Let's eat before you start trekking.

Somuuido Island is famous for its seafood noodles (haemul guksu).
We have found a restaurant named "ddaemri guksu" that serves very delicious seafood noodles.

There are outdoor tables at the restaurant. On a nice and windy day,  we recommend you to choose the outdoor seats.

This restaurants has prepared menu especially for tourists to enjoy. Yeolmu Cold Noodles and Kongguksu (cold soybean noodles) are seasonal menu. The owner operates this restaurant by himself only, so please take note that if he is busy, you may take the beverages by yourself.

We have ordered the signature menu - Ddaemri noodles, together with seafood pancakes.

Seafood pancake comes with a lot of green onions and squid, and it tastes really delicious. The chewy taste of squid is perfect!

Finally, the noodles with webfoot octopus is served.
It comes in really big bowl. Do cut the octopus into smaller pieces so that it is easier for you to eat it with the noodles. The soup is clear, so delicious and refreshing.

Trekking at Somuuido Island

After your meal, head over to the Bucheokkaemi observatory. Although it is a small island, it is easy for the first-timer to find the places here as it is well guided by signboards.

This is the 3rd section - ddaemuri path that is heading to the observatory.

This is the Bucheokkaemi observatory!

This observatory is located at the 4th section. In the past, this is the place where people pray for the Somuuido residents to return safely and with the boat full of seafood. It is now a tourist shelter and an observatory with a spectacular view.

From the observatory, you can walk to 4th Section, which is the Mongyeo Beach.

Just take a rest and enjoy the transparent and clear Mongyeo beach for some time. The calm waves sweep through the sand and it repeats again.

The sea breeze welcomes you as you walk along the trail heading to 6th Section - Myeongsaui Beach. It feels very refreshing. This section has a famous beach that used to be a family vacation spot for former President Park Chung-hee. It is a small but quiet beach.

Haenyeo Island Path, the 7th section, overlooks the Haenyeo Island, a small island located at south of Somuuido Island. It's interesting that the name was given because female divers who picked abalone used to take a rest there. In the past, it was used as a quarry for the construction of coastal docks, but after that it was banned for preservation. This section is not too long, so just take a slow walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

After passing through Hadojeong Pavilion, a pavilion at the top of Ansan mountain in Somuuido Island, you will come to the last section - "Little Pine Tree" path.

Muui Bada Nurigil is 2.5 km long, with eight scenic views that takes approximately 1 hour to complete the whole course.

After the 8th section, you will see Indogyo bridge, the bridge that we took to come to Somuuido Island. It doesn't look too difficult even for a beginner to trek on Sommuido Island, does it?

Give it a try! Visit Sommuido Island the next time you come to Korea.
