Yeongjongjin Park is a friendly city park that keeps the history of Yeongjong, and consists of various themes such as sea road, cultural center,  walking trails, etc. In this post, we will introduce some of the things to see and enjoy at Yeongjongjin Park that was recently opened as a shelter in the Yeongjonjin forest.

Yeongjongjin Park was a naval base during the Joseon Dynasty and is a historical site related to the Unyangho incident that happened in 1875 when Joseon opened it door and Japan invaded and attacked Ganghwa Island.

Yeongjongjin park, originally at Yeongjonjinmanho in Hwaseong city, was moved to Taepyeongam area near Gueupnaru, which was a military site in the 4th year of King Hyojong reign. It was moved to Incheon to strengthen the defense of Ganghwa Island which is the first line of defense against invasion by sea. At the center plaza of Yeongjongjin Park, there is a memorial monument to commemorate the souls of sailors who lost their lives during Unyangho incident.

If you walk along the fortress wall, you will arrive at Taepyeongru Pavilion. During Unyangho incident, Taepyeongru Pavilion and the fortress was destroyed but it was restored again after that. Every year, a memorial ceremony for the fallen souls will be held such as traditional rituals and other activities.

Take the stairs in the Taepyeongru Pavilion and you can enjoy this panoramic view of the coast of Incheon. Across the sea, you will see Wolmido Island, Incheon Port, downtown of Incheon, Incheon bridge, etc. This is a good opportunity to have a "me time" while you enjoy the cool sea breeze.

Some of the areas in Yeongjongjin Park is barrier-free road where anyone can walk and enjoy the place conveniently.

As you walk a little deeper inside the park, you will find an outdoor stage and Yeongjong History Museum that are facing the sea. Normally, there are various cultural performances held at the outdoor stage, but due to COVID-19, it is currently used as a resting area for park visitors.

Go down the stairs next to the Outdoor Stage, and you can walk along the Yeongjongjin coast. At the end of the stairs, you will see a sign showing info for Rail Bike, Incheon Bridge Memorial Hall and Gueup Ferry Terminal. If you wish to get closer to the sea, you can follow this path and get to the walking trail near the seaside.

Yeongjongjin Beach has small and large stones, thus you should be careful because it can get slippery when it's wet. The sea is calm but with the continuous waves, it feels like Wolmido Island and the building across the sea that can be seen clearly is close to you.

The "forest kindergarten" created using trees has caught the attention of many people. The hammock in spider shape, wooden playground, wooden stepping stones that are different from other playgrounds will help to trigger children's curiosity. It is an area where children can play freely where various playground equipments.
