Seoul’s Seosomun Pilgrimage

What Is the Seosomun Pilgrimage?
The
Seosomun Pilgrimage is an attraction that is accredited by the Vatican in Rome.
It’s
a course where you can take in beautiful western architecture and the history
of religion at a glance.
Seoul
Myeongdong Catholic Church
The Myeongdong
Catholic Church is located in the bustling Myeongdong neighborhood and is a
place with both historic meaning and great architectural meaning.
It’s a place that
has a great place in catholic history. After Korea’s first church came in 1830,
this church was the center that allowed followers to secretly carry out their
religion.
Further, it’s a
large cathedral that measures 68 meters long and 23 meters high. It was
completed in 1890 and stands as Korea’s largest western building.
Korean Anglican Seoul Cathedral
The Korean Anglican Seoul Cathedral is located on the
opposite side of Deoksusung and is
Korea’s first Romanesque cathedral.
Further, it was designated the title of “cultural asset,”
and its construction was never completed in 1926.
The outside has a soft feel and its orange roof really
catches the eye. The surrounding lawn and trees a fitting pair and create a
nice atmosphere.

Museum of Art

Not far from the
Shrine History Museum and Anglican Church, the Seoul Museum of Art has
representative beautiful modern architecture.
The outside
appearance of the building from 1920 has been preserved while the inside is a
newly renovated space.
There are three
floors with six different exhibition areas. Including the permanent exhibition
halls, there are 4 exhibitions currently showing.
Seosomun Shrine History Museum

Originally, this place was meant to praise the martyred
Catholics. The building’s beauty has made it famous and a place where footsteps
never cease to resound throughout the halls.
The museum has a variety of art and pieces on catholic
persecution to see while there is an audio history expedition of Seosomun that
takes place every Thursday allowing visitors to learn more details about the
history of the Catholic church
Further, in the Seosomun History Park, there is a tower
recognizing the Catholics that received persecution. There are many different
things to see both inside and outside of the museum.
Yakhyeon Catholic Church

Lastly, we have the Yakhyeon Catholic Church
located on a hill in Seoul, Jongro’s Jungnim-dong neighborhood. It was built in
1892 with Myeongdong Catholic Church’s design has its core.
Since it is located on a hill, you can see
the entire Seosomun History Park in one shot. You can also see Namsan Tower and
downtown Seoul all at once making it a fitting area for the Pilgrimage.
Tips on starting the pilgrimage on the AREX
and heading to Myeongdong Catholic Church!
Leave from Seoul Station on
Line 4 from “0” and go “2” stops to Myeongdong. Get off and exit through exit “9” and
walk “9” minutes to the starting point of the pilgrimage at Myeongdong
Catholic Church.
