[Strolling around Hangang] Mangwonjeong Pavilion Site and Mangwon Hangang Park

In this post, we are going to introduce Mangwonjeong Pavilion Site and Mangwon Hangang Park where you can have a relaxing stroll around Hangang.


#1 Mangwonjeong Pavilion Site

Mangwonjeong Pavilion Site is located about 10 mins walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 8. This is the pavilion site where banquets were held for envoys during the Joseon Dynasty. It was designated as Seoul Monument No. 9 and is currently preserved as a historical site.





Look for the door in Hanok style that stands out in this residential area, and you will see the entrance of this site. The information sign board on the right side of the entrance provides explanation about Mangwonjeong Pavilion site. Read it to find out more about this site before entering the place.





After you have entered, you will find a guest book in front of you. First, let's sanitize with the hand sanitizer provided and fill out the guest book. There are also some several information guide next to the guest book.





On the right side of the entrance, there is a staircase that will bring you to the pavilion. You will feel calm as you walk along the stone stairs and stone wall.





Mangwonjeong was built in a pavilion the size of 3 square at  the front and 2 square at he side. The interior decorated with traditional patterns that consists of rafters, wooden pillars and wooden floor. To get on the pavilion, you must take off your shoes and wear the slippers.





Inside the pavilion, there is a signboard written "Huiujeong".

Huiujeong has the meaning of "happy to meet the rain", is a name given by King Sejong in the Joseon Dynasty. At that time, he went to the pavilion to check on the farmers, and they were delighted by the fall of the welcome rain. Later, Grand Prince Wolsan renamed it as "Mangwonjeong" which means "you can see the scenery that is far away".




While overlooking Han River from the pavilion, you can enjoy a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

#2 Mangwon Hangang Park





If you come down from the pavilion, you can see the road to Mangwon Hangang Park. Walk along for about 10 mins and you will arrive at Mangwon Hangang Park.





Many people come here to enjoy their own leisure time. Some people just sit at the benches to take a rest, some people rent bikes and ride along Han River, some people come to take a walk with their pets.

Let's remember to keep basic etiquette and care about others.


 



There are some sports facilities such as sports equipment, basketball court, soccer field, and volleyball court are available here. However, if you wish to use the soccer field, basketball court or volleyball court, you have to make reservation, which is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
