"Let's eat Korean snack food since we are here at Ganghwa Island!"
In this post, we will introduce two restaurants serving Ganghwa Island's Korean street food that will captivate your tastebuds. Although they use ordinary ingredients, the food tastes extraordinary.
#1 Seomun Gimbap
First restaurant that we will introduce is the gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) expert in Ganghwa - Seomun Gimbap. This restaurant only sells gimbap but they food is usually sold out early on weekends. After the restaurant was introduced in a TV program, it is getting more attention and becoming popular due to the consistent taste of the food.
The price of the gimbap is KRW 3,000 for one roll. If you compared this with other franchise gimbap restaurants, Seomun Gimbap's price is considered reasonable and inexpensive as they use Ganghwa rice, seaweed, ham and sesame oil made in Korea. Payment via cash, credit card, debit card, Incheon e-eum card, Emergency Disaster Relief Fund is acceptable at Seomun Gimbap,
When you buy 2 rolls and above, they can pack them in a box. In the weekend, you may choose aluminium foil or box for packing. There is no extra charges for packing.
It may look like a normal gimbap and nothing special, but when you take a bite, you will know that the taste is different. Thick egg, cucumber, crab meat and ham that is in the sticky rice blend in well. This is one of the must-eat when you come to Ganghwa.

#2 Jeongtong Bunsik
The second restaurant that we will introduce in this post is Jeongtong Bunsik that serves Korean chewy noodles (Jjolmyeon). This special jjolmyeon can be found only in Ganghwa Island. It is located right in front of Yongheunggung Palace and is a restaurant with special view.
Besides spicy cucumber jjolmyeon, they also serve omurice (omelette rice), kimchi fried rice, spicy rice cake and others. Due to COVID-19, it is only available for takeout on Saturday.
There are about 4 tables inside the restaurant, but the weather was good on the day we visit, so we sat at the table outdoor. When you order any food, you will get soup and pickled radish as side dishes.
When you look at the noodles, you might notice that the sauce looks different than the other jjolmyeon.
You can see the thinly sliced carrots and cucumbers, bean sprouts and hard-boiled eggs mixed with the chewy noodles and sauce (made by grinding the cucumbers).
The clean taste of cucumbers makes the bean sprout tastes more crunchy which enhances the flavor of jjolmyeon. The jjolmyeon is not salty and gives a refreshing taste, which is quite different from the jjolmyeon at other place. When you visit Ganghwa Island, be sure to check out this unique Jjolmyeon.
