the popular spot - Hongik University Station.
There are many popular restaurants, shops, and things to do nearby Hongik University Station, a station for AREX, Subway Line 2 and Gyeongui-Jungang Line. In this post, we will introduce the facilities in the station and share some tips to use the station.
[Fastest way to Transfer]
The fastest way to transfer to Subway Line 2 and Gyeongui-Jungang Line at the AREX Hongik University Station or to exit the station is to get off the train at door #5-4 or #1-2, and go up the escalator.
Many people who wants to transfer to Subway Line 2 and Gyeongui-Jungang Line might accidentally exit the gate out to 1st floor. To avoid confusion or cause big crowd standing near the exit gate, there is an information board in front of the ticket gate for the passengers.
- Transfer to Gyeongui-Jungang Line -
There is an elevator beside the convenience store and washroom that will bring you to B1 floor to transfer to Gyeongui-Jungang Line.
- Transfer to Subway Line 2 -
To get to the Subway Line 2, you need to walk on the passenger way that is quite long. To enjoy an easier walk, you may use the moving walkway.
[Facilities]
- Phone Charging Station -
There is a phone charging station in front of Exit 7. If you suddenly need to charge your phone, you may use it.
There are two types of services available. First, you may charge your phone directly at the charging station. Second, you can rent a power bank and return it later.
- Washroom -
It is located between GS25 convenience store and currency exchange center.
- Currency Exchange Center (Kookmin Bank) & Travel Center - (Temporarily Closed)
The Travel Center & Currency Exchange Center, located near the transfer gate, is temporarily closed due to COVID-19.
- Self-exchange lounge -
The Currency Exchange Center is closed but you may use the self-exchange lounge. There isn't many people using this at the moment due to COVID-19, but if you suddenly need to exchange money, you may do it conveniently at the self-exchange lounge.

There is GS25 convenience store located before the transfer gate.
[Other stores inside the Station]
In Hongik University Station, there is an accessories shop called REDEYE, a Korean street food restaurant called "Suje Eomok", Cafe DEL TREN and others. There is a rest area next to Cafe DEL TREN, so you may buy a drink and take a rest at that area.
Beside the Travel Center, there is a vending machine called "Para bara" that sells second-hand items. It is fun to just take a look at what items are available.
[ Places to visit near Hongik University Station ]
Quafe, located at Yeonnam-dong, is a shop that sells Kkwabaegi (Twisted Korean Doughnuts). If you are a bread lover, we would like to recommend this to you.
Cafe QUAFE can been seen at a red brick building that stands out in one of the alleys in Yeonnam-dong. Although the cafe is located between the alleys, it is easy to find it because the red brick can be seen quite obviously in between the alleys.
The twisted bread might be sold out when you visit the store. Therefore, it is recommended to check the time when the bread is freshly served. The waiting line can be long as there are many people who goes there to buy the twisted bread. Be sure to arrive earlier!
The Korean twisted bread is freshly served at 10.30am every morning, and the time varies for the afternoon session.
When we entered the store, the mint chocolate twisted bread and strawberry twisted bread caught our attention.
The logo and words on the wall is being displayed alternatively. When it changes, it creates a different atmosphere in the store.
You may enjoy the food and drinks on the first floor in QUAFE, but if it gets crowded, there may not be seats available. If so, you can go to second floor to enjoy the food you bought from the store.
There are a few flavors of twisted bread that might caught your attention more, such as as Unicorn twist, mint chocolate twist and smore chocolate twist. It contains sweet syrup and chocolate and it is good to enjoy the twisted bread with coffee. The twisted bread is made from dough that is kneaded using 100 degree celcius water, thus making it moist and chewy. You may choose from various types of toppings so you can enjoy the taste and visual of the twisted bread.
