[AREX NUMBER] Light through Dream, Seoul Lantern Festival 2019

Greeting from AREX :)

Autumn has passed and with November comes the onset of winter.

Introducing a festival
to warm your hearts with beautiful memories,
the 2019 Seoul Lantern Festival!

Let’s learn more about this festival.

What is the Seoul Lantern Festival?

The Seoul Lantern Festival is a major cultural celebration held by the city of Seoul every November where a different concept brightens the entire Cheonggye Plaza and Cheonggyecheon with a brilliant display of colors, attracting more than 2.5 million visitors each year.
Come see the 72 sets of over 310 large-scale lanterns along the Cheonggyecheon path that are sure to take you back to your childhood and inspire you. :)

Photos of a lifetime with your loved ones

The 11th festival held this year has transformed into a sensory festival where people from all over the world and all generations can have a shared experience and connect with more than ever.

The theme this time is “Illuminating Seoul’s Night through Fairytales” where
Korea’s fairytales and world-famous fairytales will be displayed, as well as unique artworks combined with “media art.”

There are four themes, starting from Cheonggye Plaza and ending at Supyogyo, where you can see a variety of works from such as “The Little Prince,” “The Fairy and the Woodcutter, Cinderella,” and “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”
and take photos of a lifetime with people precious to you to keep as keepsakes.

“Find the hidden lanterns” everywhere

One of the charms of the Seoul Lantern Festival is searching for hidden lanterns while taking a walk and breathing in the autumn air after eating dinner.

You will see lanterns made of various materials hidden around the bridges, walls and trees of Cheonggyecheon.

Visitors here to enjoy the festival will have fun finding cats, butterflies and pigeons they see daily in the form of lanterns as they take a stroll.

Various events to experience and “Wish Lantern”

The festival’s signature event is “Float a Wish Lantern,” in which beautiful memories are made by writing down wishes on paper boats illuminated with various colors and floated down the Gwanggyo.

There are also other various events such as the paper lantern making event where you can make paper lanterns including fairytale lanterns, Seoul lanterns, and lanterns in the shape of a fortune pouch, and you can purchase a souvenir LED Lantern Festival ballpoint pen.
