It turned out that Americans mostly used hotels in Gangnam area including COEX, while Chinese('You ke') preferred hotels around Myeong-dong, among foreign tourists who visited Korea last year.
According to the announcement of Expedia, global online travel agency, on 15th about top 10 hotels that American and Chinese tourists mostly used in 2014, Americans used mostly 'Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas' in Samsung-dong last year.
The second place was 'Seocho Artnouveau city' in Seocho-dong and the third 'the Intercontinental Seoul Coex'. Six of top 10 hotels american guests chosen are located in Gangnam area like Samsung-dong and Seocho-dong.
Especially, if foreign tourists want to move to Gangnam area, it's convenient for them to go to Gimpo airport station by taking Korail airport railroad at Incheon airport and transfer to express train of subway line 9. Because the second phase of extension section between Sinnonhyeon station and Sports complex station of subway line 9 was opened on March 28, foreign tourists are able to get to Gangnam area from Incheon-Gimpo airport more conveniently.
It was analyzed that American tourists who are used to visit Korea mainly for their business prefer hotels in Gangnam area, due to being able easily to attend MICE(meeting+tour+conference+exhibit) events and being concentrated to this area by lots of global company.
On the other hand, 'You ke' showed the distinctly different preference to hotel from Americans. It was examined that 'You ke' used mostly 'Lotte hotel seoul in Sogong-dong. The second place was 'hotel PJ' in Inhyeon-dong, Jung-gu and the 3rd place 'hotel skypark central Myeong-dong' in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu.
Chinese travelers prefer 'hotel skypark cental Myeong-dong' especially because this hotel provides a shuttle bus service up to Seoul station of Incheon airport railroad(to depart every hour from 9 am to 5 pm from Seoul station) and tour manager with proficiency in Chinese makes hotel reservations for You ke at airport railroad travel center in Incheon airport.
The reason why 'You ke' prefer Myeong-dong particularly is that they can easily reach there by using Incheon airport railroad and also can enjoy shopping and various popular tourist attractions. They usually take Incheon airport railroad bound for Seoul station at Incheon airport, transferring to subway line 4 and arriving on there with only 2 stops more to go.
With the opening of transfer passageway connecting Seoul station of Incheon airport railroad to subway line 1 & 4 on March 28, it's more convenient and faster to go to Myeong-dong from Incheon and Gimpo airport. So, it is expected that Chinese much prefer hotels in Myeong-dong.
