[Famous Snacks in Mangwon Market] Basakmacha and Mangwon Korokke

Mangwon market is one of the popular markets in Seoul. It has some famous snacks which is called the specialties of Mangwon market. Basakmacha is famous for its marshmallow ice-cream and Mangwon Korokke is famous for croquette. Basakmacha and Mangwon Korokke are located at the beginning and end respectively in Mangwon Market so it is easy to find the shop. Basakmacha is originally a stall for takeaway homemade pork cutlet. It offers deep fried thick meat pork cutlet (donkatsu), and is one of the most famous shop in Mangwon Market.

Many people buy this pork cutlet as a substitute for meals because you can find various parts of the meat and it is available at cheap price - around KRW 2,000 to KRW 3,000.

Basakmacha that was famous as a pork cutlet stall has another snack that became famous on the social media. It is the Marshmallow ice-cream.

 The marshmallow ice cream consists of three flavors which is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

After you have placed the order, the staff takes out the marshmallow ice cream from the freezer and bake it.

We were wondering how they would bake the ice-cream. Then, we saw the staff baking it right on the spot with a torch that is inserted into a dinosaur case.

The ice-cream is in a square shape and wrapped with marshmallows. All four sides are baked evenly with the torch.

When the golden-brown marshmallow is baked to the extent that it is slightly stretched, then it is ready to eat.

The marshmallow coated on the ice-cream gives you a sweet and chewy taste. It's warm and is not as hot as we thought, so it is just like eating warm ice cream.

#2 Mangwon Korokke

Mangwon Korokke is a must-try snack when you come to Mangwon Market because you can enjoy handmade croquette at an affordable price. This stall appeared in TV programs several times and is also part of the Mangwon Market's history. They have always maintain its price of KRW 500 per croquette since a long time and is indeed one of the favorite snacks of people who visits the Mangwon Market.

At any time you go, you will see a queue waiting to buy this.

The main important point is the price of the croquette at Mangwon Korokke. Their croquette is made in immediately at the store and it does not exceed KRW 1,000. The basic croquette is KRW 500.

There are about 10 kinds of croquettes fried every hour, and you can see that they are constantly making and frying croquette inside the store.
