Michelin Guide 2019 Selection : Pildong Myeonok and Woolaeoak

 Greeting from AREX :)

Today, Nareu’s recommended restaurants are places that boast the Korean delicacy of “Cold Noodles”!
I’m talking about Pildong Myeonok and Woolaeoak .

First, Pildong Myeonok has consistently been selected for the Michelin Guide since 2017.

While Pildong Myeonok’s “Cold Buckwheat Noodles”  and “Spicy Buckwheat Noodles”  go for 12,000 won,
they are different from your typical noodles because this shop makes it Pyeongyang style.

Pildong Myeonok’s Pyeongyang Buckwheat Noodles have a clean meaty broth and buckwheat noodles with a great texture.

On top of that, there is sliced beef and pork with onions and peppers. It distinguishes itself even more from the normal noodles with the red pepper flakes sprinkled over top.

Pildong Myeonok’s Spicy Buckwheat Noodles are also different from the typical thing due to its sauce being thinner and hitting your nose and taste buds with the savoriness of sesame oil.
Further, the spicy flavor is less spicy than you would typically expect, so those who do not usually eat spicy foods well can appreciate and enjoy this dish.

Next, I will tell you about Woolaeoak . Woolaeoak has been selected for the Michelin Guide, so it comes as no surprise that it is bustling with people wanting to try its Pyeongyang Buckwheat Noodles. A bowl will cost you 14,000 won, and you must pay in advance.

The menu is not only in Korean, but also a few foreign languages, so foreign guests can also get to know about these popular dishes.

Woolaeoak’s Pyeongyang Buckwheat Noodles have a meat broth garnished with Korean pear and cabbage kimchi. Unlike Pildong Myeonok, this restaurant does not include red pepper flakes, onion or peppers in the dish.

As expected, Woolaeoak features delicious Pyeongyang Buckwheat Noodles with a clean meat broth as its specialty.
Also, if you eat it together with the vegetable salad, you will fall in love with its savory flavors.

While Woolaeoak’s Spicy Buckwheat Noodles are also garnished with pear and cabbage kimchi, the sauce is more of what you’d be accustomed to versus what you get at Pildong Myeonok.

That’s all I have for you today about these two great Pyeongyang Buckwheat Noodles places.  Both Pildong Myeonok and Woolaeoak are restaurants you have to check out on a trip to Korea, be it summer or any other season! So, what do you say to enjoying a bowl of Cold Noodles with AREX?

Muuido Pine Tree Restaurant [Seonyeonginae]

Hello.
This is AREX. :)
Let’s get right to Nareu’s recommended restaurant!
Today, we are talking about the Pine Tree Restaurant (Seonyeonginae) located in Muuido. :)

Seonyeonginae, aka the Pine Tree Restaurant located in Muuido, Incheon, has an old sign on display showing off its 20 years of service. :)

The interior is in stark contrast with it’s exterior with how surprisingly wide and open it is.

You can also enjoy the feeling of killing two birds with one stone by sitting outside and eating while enjoying the sight of the mud fields.

There’s also a café outside that is managed by the restaurant, so after eating you can have a chat while sipping on a coffee.
.

Additionally, outside are a table and photo spot so you can take a picture with a date, family or your kids.

*At night, there is a neon sign so you can take an even prettier picture with its glow in the background. : )

In typical seafood restaurant fashion, the menu really catches your eye with its various foods such as grilled fish, clams, seafood noodle soup, sashimi soup, spicy seafood stew, etc.

*The grilled dishes are unavailable outside, so for those who wish to enjoy the scenery while eating, please be aware. : )

The dishes I went for this time were the cold sashimi soup and the seafood noodle soup!

I ordered one portion of each, but I was surprised at just how generous the portions were.

Noodle soup, green onion pancakes, cold sashimi soup, etc. are all available in single servings, so those who plan to dine alone can enjoy the food without any worries.

On the right side outside of the restaurant is a long stretching road leading to both the great mud fields and Jamjin Island.

At the moment, the road is being extended and is under construction. However, I suggest that you go later together with a date to walk along the path while savoring the smell of the ocean. : )

The great number of cruise ships and fishing boats hurriedly moving about together with the endless sea beyond the mud fields is quite a spectacle.

If you exit the restaurant to the left and walk 3 minutes, you will encounter Yongyu Island’s 3D sculpture.
At sunset, this spot becomes the best photo zone for couples and photographers to snap a picture. : )
